I have been staring at this image.......
It is just a paper cup...? The kind we throw away after drinking water. But someone decided to draw an eye on it. Not just any eye, a very detailed, tired, beautiful eye with lashes that look so real you want to touch it.
And then there is the tear.
The artist didn't draw a normal tear. She drew a red tear. Blood. And she made it so clever that the tear flows out of the cup and becomes real on the table. Like the painting is bleeding.
When I first saw it, I felt somehow called out.
How many times have we all been that cup? We carry things inside us. Hot tea, cold water, stress, heartbreak, we carry everything and we keep a straight face outside. We look normal, white, plain, like a disposable cup. But inside, there is an eye that is watching everything and is tired of pretending.
The red tear is what hit me most. Sometimes our pain doesn't stay inside the drawing. It overflows. It becomes real and stains the table where everyone can see it. You can't hide it anymore.
That is what good art does. It makes you feel seen without saying a single word.
I don't know what the artist was going through when she drew this, but I felt it....so much That feeling of holding so much and finally letting one drop fall.
This is why I love simple art on random things. You don't need a big canvas to say something big you know....
