IN ANOTHER UNIVERSE, I WAS LUCKY. IN THIS ONE, I HAD TO WORK
I used to believe success was pure luck.
Because I watched it happen. My friend in school , not always coming to lectures but her uncle got her a IT job at an oil company in Port Harcourt. Just like that. While I was still trekking with my application letter under hot sun. That felt like luck slapping me in the face.
Then I started thinking ahead.
What if the multiverse is real? In Universe A, I am the lucky girl. I post one design and Fiverr blows up. 10 orders in one night. No struggle. In Universe B, I am the hard worker. I stay up till 2AM learning Canva, watching YouTube tutorials, getting 10 impressions for 2 days with zero clicks.
We are all living in Universe B.
And that's the painful truth - luck is real, but you can't control which universe you wake up in. I can't control if a client will randomly find my gig. What I CAN control is showing up. Luck might give my variant in Universe A a client on day 1, but if she doesn't know how to design, that client will leave a 1-star review and ruin her.
Hard work is what keeps the luck from expiring.
Last week I got zero orders. This week I got 10 impressions. That tiny number made me happy because it means the system is seeing me. My hard work prepared me for that small door to open.
So if my biggest opportunity came tomorrow? I wouldn't call it luck. I would call it 6 months of sleepless nights finally paying rent.
In this universe, I will choose hard work every time. Because luck can visit you once, but hard work decides if you keep the house it built.
What universe are you in right now? let's talk in the comment.
