If you, or anyone you might know, have been affected by the trauma of pedophilia, I recommend this brave and moving documentary, by victim and filmmaker, Sasha Joseph Neulinger.
Apparently, it’s not as rare as you might hope — with 15% of children sexually abused before age 18 & 90% by people they know.
In Sasha’s case it was family and worse, it was passed on from one family member to another.
As his therapist put it, grimly:
‘Child sex abuse is the vile gift that keeps on giving’
In this intimate portrait, Sasha is a young man who Rewinds his childhood to revisit and better understand his abuse, through home videos and interviews.
We learn to recognize the complicated behavior of children traumatized in this way —how they act out, signs to look out for —and even have a glimpse into the twisted psyche of those who inflict such harm.
I admit that I was somewhat disturbed viewing this film as I suspect that I know a child who might be abused by her father, who has still not been brought to justice.
This individual has deceived Children’s Protective Services as well as the courts. His poor wife is brainwashed & scared of him. The child victim is, now, 13 but I fear that this has been going on for years and she has been heavily coached by her father and kept from concerned family members.
The possible pedophile presents as a ‘pious’ person’ and respectable member of society. But he is quite manipulative and a dangerous bully — I suspect he is most likely mentally unstable, and perhaps abused as a child. So far, he has deceived the legal system.
