O, dear, realizing I might be a tad too old for this... Stopped to run an errand & took baby dove with me. Within moments, it hears the very distinctive call of an adult Eurasian Collard dove, which it is, and off it flies to a high branch! I stood by, in wonder, having already lost a young pigeon, earlier.
The baby dove tries to stick its beak into the adult's beak (to feed) wings flapping, gleefully. Adult recoils, possibly wingslaps baby, and promptly flies off with its mate.
So, I do in middle age, what I did not do as a teenager, and climb the tree, all the way to that high branch!
After rescuing the wounded babe, I perch there myself, for around 15 minutes (foot numbing) & wait for my wife to help the dodo bird (moi) down..
I would have left the baby dove, if adult(s) accepted it, but it was wounded & vulnerable, with crows flying nearby. Hopefully, when I return from my trip, I can take the little bird back home to the tree where it fell out of - now, that it can fly - to unite it with parents.
One hopes to do more good than harm and -- ah, necessity and love -- how they makes us daring!
Staying at friend's place, and baby dove lucked out. Here's its nest
