¡Bienvenidos, amigos virtuales!✨💜
Welcome, virtual friends!✨💜 I hope your week goes wonderfully, may everything go very well🤗
My week has been a little busy, however, I did not want to miss my participation in the contest #125 of Ladies Of Hive, which as every week shares with us some good, interesting and thoughtful questions, this time one of them is a bit controversial and in which I wanted to give you my humble opinion.
💜 According to the Internet, euthanasia is the intervention voluntarily accepted by the patient and performed by a professional, which accelerates the death of a terminally ill person with the intention of avoiding unnecessary suffering and pain. Do you agree with this way of dying, do you think it dignifies the person in his decision of how to leave, or on the contrary, do you think it should not not be practiced? Could you argue your point of view?
The first time I met or heard about this topic was in a romantic novel called Me Before You (it has its movie adaptation), which is about a young, rich, attractive and adventurous businessman who has an accident where he is left quadriplegic and with no desire to continue living, then he has had several suicide attempts and one day he expresses his desire to practice euthanasia in Switzerland.
One of the things I discovered was that the etymological meaning of the word Euthanasia is "good death", I think that maybe for some people it is not so because for some people it symbolizes suicide, losing hope or not wanting to continue fighting for your life, however, it must not be easy or comfortable to be in a situation of constant pain, to depend on someone for everything (walking, eating, bathing, dressing, doing your needs like urinating and defecating), having to be with an oxygen mask, because many of us can say that we understand these situations but they are not really understood until they are lived, and maybe for those people it is the best way to honor their life, to decide how and when to die. I think it should be practiced with certain conditions and to patients with terminal illnesses or who have to depend on another person to continue living (as in the case of Will, the young man in the novel).
By this I do not mean that it is something easy to decide (for the person who is living it) or to accept for the people who see it leave, but I think it is a very personal decision, which we may not share, but we should respect it.
