There is no denying it, 2020 has been a hard year for many. Social isolation, job and income insecurity and the threat of COVID-19 have all made for a taxing period. With so much destabilization, we need healthy outlets. I recommend a good diet, exercise and writing to make it through. Writing is an excellent therapy and functions to sort out our thoughts so we can find root causes for our feelings and fix things.

Writing is a great way to express ourselves. Often times when a complicated emotional issue must be expressed, a letter is written. Writing can help to sort and order our feelings by putting complex problems into written word. What gets written gets accomplished, and a thoughtful ordered piece can help us to find peace.

We need healthy outlets for our emotions. Emotions are often tied to our physical and environmental conditions, and right now both may have changed for the worse. Put your thoughts on a page, and solicit a response from those you care about. As a writer, I view the written word as a real outlet for what is on the inside. I often pour out my feelings and understandings onto the page as a sort of meditation.

How can you start writing therapy?

Start by stating your feelings and a brief thesis on what is happening. Support it with your beliefs, thoughts and how relationships and your environment play into this. Keep writing until you discover new truths and act on them.

Wishing you all health, strength and peace. Take the journey of understanding through the written word.
