Beware the Imposters

This last HIVE Power Up Day I made a pretty frustrating error. I had 17 HBD that I did not change to HIVE three days prior so I needed to do something quickly. After speaking with @thekittygirl, I decided to do the @swap.app to get it changed. Unfortunately, I did not verify my typing and sent my HBD to the wrong account. I accidentally typed "swapp.app" and it went to the swapp.app scam account that was created for this exact situation.

I sent 17 HBD to "swapp.app" by accident. When I checked I saw I had made the error. I and @thekittygirl sent a comment and request asking @swapp.app to send it back to me. However, there was no reply. All this person did was put

Before I contacted this person, @thekittygirl contacted @swap.app to see if this was their account or not. Unfortunately, it was not. We were informed that this was a scam account. Please know that @swap.app is an account that helps people change their HBD to HIVE for a small fee. It is a great help for all of us on HIVE and they have help MANY of us get our STEEM switched to HIVE. They are a very trusted group with a high reputation.

This is the correct account for getting your HBD turned into HIVE.

When you see the two account headers you may not see the difference, but let me show you the differences. @swap.app are the Good Guys for sure! As you can see in the image below there is only one letter "P" in their name so when you want to reach them, you would type @swap.app. If you will look to the right in the image below, you will see the scammers have two letters "PP"s in their name. Take a look at the images for the account as well. The @swap.app account has the original, while the swapp.app account has an obvious copy with an added black line around it. Also notice the @swap.app account has a reputation of 57 while swapp.app only has a reputation of 25. This is a good indicator that something is not correct.

Please be aware that if you accidentally send it to this scam account you WILL NOT get it back. The account holder will just take it and exchange it for money. Here is my proof.

So, as I go forward, I will be double checking my typing and doing a little more research on who I am sending my HIVE and HBD to. You should be doing the same. In this situation, there is nothing more I can do so I am writing this post to warn everyone to take the time to triple check your typing before you send something out there. This was not much of a hardship for me, but for those smaller accounts, it could be devastating.
