Moody Photography from Tbilisi, Georgia. For #Monomad Challenge
Images can delight the sense of beauty and can awake feelings. The former sometimes produce only a wow-impression, the latter can depict something not quite bright and appealing. In recent weeks, while walking around Tbilisi, Georgia, I want to find something emotional rather than literally beautiful. There are several sightseeing places in Tbilisi that could be a good reason for posts on Hive, but ... I don't feel enthusiastic when I am thinking about them. These days, I am more appealed by twilight, darkness, ruins, cracks, roughness, curvature - late autumn, it's cold, there is war in Europe, everything is upside down, maybe that's why. Here, I want to share some pictures I took recently.
Metekhi Church at dusk
This images happened to me yesterday. I noticed that flock of crows above me and hoped that they would eventually approach the nearby temple. But they disappeared. I was taking silhouette-like images of the same church, already forgotten about birds, when they suddenly came back.
I like that these dramatic crows look like leaves leaving the trees in the frame.
This is, by the way, a Georgian church Metekhi build in the 13 century after the previous one was destroyed by the Mongols. Metekhi is a sightseeing place too but miraculously, authenticity has been preserved there, which tourism swept like a broom from many other parts of the old Tbilisi.
I see evil fate here, omen of trouble, oblivion, but also hope - because, in addition to darkness, there is light in the frame. I am not a believer but, still, the temple, anyway, is about seeking light and peace in the world of suffering and fear.
Residential building in Avlabari district
This is another one. This crack like a lightning breaking the house, its peace and safety. The Georgian grapevine cross, the one that St. Nina used to baptize Georgia in the 4 century, reminds us that the danger is real, reminds about fear and suffering, and, again, hope. That cross is like a magic sign that is suppose to guard peace and prosperity of this house. Can "Christian magic" do this? Depends on your beliefs.
The door of a monastery next to Queen Darejan Palace
Below, there is a less impressive image but, still, it awakes emotions since, as I believe, nobody can witness an abandoned, ruined house without feeling sorrow. The same feeling we are experiencing when we see a living being dying.
House under demolition in Metekhi street, Avlabari district
Love, lust, and vanity. A wall of youth that passed long time ago, intensively and pointlessly.
The sky always symbolizes hope and life (even if this is life after death). Because, probably, a look at the sky helps us to distract from vain, empty thoughts, anxieties, and fears, detach from our ego, and slightly touch what is the essence of ourselves.
A flock of birds in the form of a wedge leaving autumnal Georgia
Autumn, the time to dig a hole in the dirt and try to keep warm in it. Or fly away. But where there are hardships, there is more naked hope.
Tbilisi with Mtatsminda Mount at dusk
These were several images from Tbilisi, Georgia which I took in October-November 2022 with a 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR and a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G on a DSLR Nikon D750. Hope you liked these images.
