Upper Beaconsfield 1.jpg

So it's not just any house, it is a architect design house in Upper Beaconsfield in Melbourne Australia.

Upper Beaconsfield 2.jpg

It is from the 1970's but I think you would call it mid century modern, with a twist of brutalism. It is exposed cement breeze blocks (are they called that everywhere in the world or is that an Australian only thing?) so it can seem harsh, and there is dark timber everywhere, it's actually stained and almost black but it does evoke memories of mission brown 1970's.

But it is lifted by the nature, it is everywhere, almost like it is taking over the house, trying to reclaim it

Upper Beaconsfield 4.jpg

This is the sort of place where you can be both inside and outside at the same time, where the building seems to bow in deference to the nature.

And yeah there is a pool but you would have to be insane to use it, I mean it's what 6 degrees today and it's unheated, because this isn't kids and dive bombs pool this is a reading a classic paperback on a seat nearby pool.

Or maybe it's a dodge the wildlife and the owls and the kangaroo shit and bushfires type of property.
