#54 in Top WR, 13/18. Personal Record Got Beaten | Gods Unchained
In December-January, I was swinging between Solar and Mythic. It was usually easy to leave Solar and reach Mythic but Weekends Ranked were awful, with win rate significantly below 50% that led to sinking back to Solar. All that time, I have been playing budget aggro Deception. For example:
Deck code: GU_1_2_CCQCCQCCmCCmCDDCDDCDnCDnIAlIAlKDPKDPCEPCEPCEwCEwCFMCFMIClIClIAkIAkICyCAbCEcCEcKCsKCsKDLKDL
The win rate was almost 70% at some point but it was more about playing in Solar / Ethereal Diamond than Mythic.
From the point of daily $GODS, it was quite good, I normally had 4-6 $GODS a day. So, I almost stopped paying attention to what kind of cards I won on the weekends.
Desire of winning legendary packs is just a mania, I sometimes thought.
Unexpected Luck
So, this was what happened to me. I got these cards as WR rewards 馃榾:
Wasting no time, I sold Kadmos and gold Winter's Bounty at a good discount so as not to delay the sale while prices were falling.
馃
I enjoyed this addition to my savings for a while until I came across a video of one well-known GU blogger. He was telling he had reached the level of 1000... And I thought, "damn, this is not that far from my own level." So, why, then, are my results are so... mediocre?..
And it made me ponder about my fate in Gods Unchained...
Reflections on My Fate
Yes, fate... I played Gods Unchained daily for about 1 year and 3 months (with several days missed only) and I reached only the level of a guy who too often lose in Mythic. "Wolf among sheep, sheep among wolves" described my status well.
And how many times has this happened to me in my life? Too often. Why?.. Hesitancy to take the last step, inability to focus on the last step, flight into fantasy instead of doing the last step on the way to the top level...
In the case of GU, of course, we are talking about buying expensive cards - this is the last step. I could have bought, say, two Shadows of Lethenon in the summer 2022 but didn't for one reason or another. Instead, I spent money on getting shiny cards... I invested around 50$ in a ton of Stoneskin Poison and Patient Pickpocket in 2022 but I didn't invest in cards to raise my win rate... Why? How?.. 馃槥 I had some explanations but I don't remember what...
As a result of these gloomy thoughts, I decided that the unexpected money... I mean this money:
was a sort of gift of fate and...can be invested in my GU level and status...
So... This was what appeared in my inventory a week ago 馃:
Of course, I felt anxious since nobody guarantees you will win oftener with expensive cards... I was afraid to find myself in Solar or even Auric after spending more than 70$...
My New Deception Deck, 60% winrate in Mythic 馃
Without looking at decks on gudecks com, I compiled one based on my understanding and feeling (which was easy considering I play Deception 99% of the time).
60%, the deck's win rate in Mythic only
I also tried playing 1 Heroic Brawler since buffing Shadow of Lethenon is tempting... But I ended up with having only one 5-mana card (Lethal Prawler) to obtain the maximum of aggro-ness. Which is crucial considering what monsters await us, mortals, after 7 mana is opened.
The Cards
Shadow of Lethenon, from my own experience, are very effective against budget aggro Deception I used to play but I didn't expect how good they are against most other archetypes. Not having to hide a creature with god power is awesome.
Turn 4 vs Heirloom Death, the board is full of minions, the opponent's god's health is 13
It takes some time to learn how and when to play Shadows of Lethenon and I believe I haven't reached the full feeling of the cats after several dozens of games. So, potentially deck can work even better, all else being equal.
Shade Walker looks less revolutionary than the cats for a budget Deception player. It has only 3 health so it's more vulnerable to spells than, say, Feral Shapeshifter or Sneaky Bruiser. And yet I decided to buy two of them. There are not many Mages nowadays, and an additional, say, 3 damage provided by Shade Walker gives a percent or two increase in the win rate and this is what we need.
Gariel, Bolster of Souls may seem a dubious choice for aggro Deception due to the fact that the card is slow. However, I want to give it a chance.
Switch Duelist buffed with Dark Knives and Gariel to 12/2
Phase Crawler buffed by Gariel
Gariel works well with Pietro, Merry Bandit and Lethal Prowler. Gariel is a chance to win the worst matchups since it can double the power of already buffed creatures to overwhelming levels.
But it's quite possible that it's just my desire for quirk 馃檪 that makes me keep Gariel in the deck...
Phase Crawler, first of all, helps to utilize Assassin's Aim which is too often a dead card when you have only Switch Duelists and Lurkers as low-mana creatures.
In the early game, Phase Crawler + Assassin's Aim is 12 damage which is huge. Early Merrick can make the damage even larger. Though, I never mulligan hoping it will come when I have a buffed monster on the board.
Lethal Prawler is another must-have. Works as a godblitz card, can be buffed by Dark Knives or Gariel.
Everybody is aware how Umber Arrow is cool but anyway I would like to show one screenshot:
The higher tier, the oftener it happens, and I love it. 馃榾
13/18 on This Weekend Ranked
2 MJ leggies, 2 Core leggies. 馃榾馃馃
My personal record was 11/18. 馃檪
#54, A couple of hours before the end of WR
Another good news is that I have never de-ranked from Mythic since I bought cats and walkers. Seven days in a row including the weekend. 馃檪 I hope things continue to be as optimistic as they are, and I am looking forward to seeing what cards I've won...
Thank you for stopping by, comments will be appreciated! 馃檪
