There are four most common birds in Kathmandu - pigeons, sparrows, crows, and kites. The latter sometimes perch on electric poles, but usually they are soaring high in the sky. Kites also often form a whirling flock - this is how they socialize as I understand - visible from far.
Normally, you can only photograph their ventral side when you are walking in the city or resting on a rooftop (Kathmandu is a city of rooftops!)
I quickly got bored with shooting this. But once when I was at Swayambhu Temple, located at a hill top, I had a chance to watch from above as several kites were soaring over the city.
I thought I found a perfect place to photograph black kites, but when I returned next time and then again, there were no kites there. Luck!
