It's time again for Three Tune Tuesday, that day of the week where members of the Hive community shares three songs of their liking with the rest of the community.

I take a slow, relaxing approach to Three Tune Tuesday: I like to share pre-1924 78rpm songs from my collection, and record them while playing on an appropriate time-period windup phonograph. I encourage you to take a few moments and slow down with me. Settle down, close your eyes, and take yourself back.. way back.. in time, to a distant uncle's parlour in the early 1920's. There are comfortable seats, pleasant conversation, and old music.
This week's TTT is all about love. It is (or was), after all, Valentines Day! I have, for you, three pre-1924 songs all celebrating the virtues of love.
Flirting Whistler is a song written by Harry Von Tilzer with lyrics by Andrew B. Sterling. First published in 1912, the song describes a young woman walking down the street while whistling a merry tune. That's about all. Nothing about her clothes, or anyone looking to act in any way innappropriately.
This version, by Patrick Conway and his band, is an instrumental and so does not have the lyrics. Still, one can imagine this being fun to whistle too.
Next up is another song that originally had lyrics but is played here only as an instrumental. The Love Nest wass a popular song that was first published in 1920, composed by Louis Hirsch, and with lyrics by Otto Harbach. The song's lyrics describe a cozy, romantic home where two lovers can escape from the world and spend time together. Without lyrics, we have only our imaginations to picture us enjoying this music in a cozy cottage. This version is performed by Art Hickman and his Orchestra.
My final song of the week is a composition from one of my favourite composers, Fritz Kreisler, and performed by him on piano and his brother, Hugo Kreisler, on violin.
I'm in Love, like the other songs this week, also originally had lyrics, but here is a straight up instrumental. The song was originally part of the musical romantic comedy Apple Blossoms and comes at a pivotal point in the musical when the wealthy young protagonist, Tony, realises his love for the simple country girl, Sally. Neither of their families agree with this relationship. Do they end up together and happy by the end? Of course they do!
