It's Three Tune Tuesday! On Wednesday. Three Tune Tuesday (#TTT) is an initiative by ablaze@ablaze for people to share three tunes, or songs, that they enjoy, for the rest of Hive to appreciate.

I run a live stream of my TTT songs every Tuesday at 12:00pm EDT (details in the footer), then take that stream and share the songs from it here, on Hive, on Wednesday (or occasionally Thursday). These songs are all old pre-1923 78rpm records from my collection, played on my antique phonographs and recorded with a well placed microphone. Like what you hear? Come listen live!

Now, onto the songs.

This week is all about fun. It's Thanksgiving Week in the US (Thursday is Thanksgiving Day) which unofficially heralds in the beginning of the Christmas season. This is a week off for me, which is fun, which was the inspiration for this weeks songs! Fun.

The songs themselves this week aren't about fun as much as they are just fun to listen to. They're upbeat, cheerful, and just plain old "fun".

First up!

Cuddles

Cesare Sodero was an Italian musician who emigrated to the United States. Upon reaching the US his desire was to share Italian music with an American audience and ended up recording on the Edison label. Thomas Edison was very heavy handed with the music that was published on his label and held veto authority for every song, with the exception of Cesare Sodero. Sodero was so successful and so highly regarded that he retained authority over all his music that was published, even on Edison's label. "Cuddles" here is played on my London Upright phonograph.

Whistling Johnnies

If you're thinking that this is a funny name for a song, you're probably right. If you're really young and find yourself giggling at the song title.. well... I'll admit, I did too.

Anvil Chorus

Give this one a listen. You will recognize this song.

Anvil Chorus is the English translation of the song, originally entitled "Gypsy Chorus." The song is from a Verde opera. The scene takes place in the morning when the Gypsy's are starting their day and the men begin working by beating on their anvil's. The song itself, when sang, is about the virtues of hard work, strong wine, and women. This version is strictly an instrumental, but every bit as fun.
