Greetings, to my hivers friends & @Worldmappin Community. Today, I invite you to journey with us to Kawasan Falls in Balilihan, Bohol a quiet natural sanctuary where history flows gently with water, and nature reminds me how peaceful life can be when we slow down.

Balilihan is one of Boholโ€™s inland municipalities, known for its rolling hills, fertile land, and refreshing countryside atmosphere. As we traveled deeper inland, I noticed how the air became cooler and the surroundings greener. Sitting at a higher elevation of about 300โ€“500 meters above sea level, Balilihan offers a refreshing escape from the heat of coastal areas. This altitude allows freshwater springs to thrive, continuously feeding Kawasan Falls throughout the year.

Every adventure begins long before the destination and our journey to Kawasan Falls was already an experience on its own. So, we started from Cebu City, and the trip took around 3 to 4 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. As we moved farther from the city, concrete buildings slowly disappeared and were replaced by open skies, rice fields, rolling hills, and quiet provincial roads. I felt the pace of life slow down with every kilometer.

The drive didnโ€™t feel exhausting it felt calming. Along the way, we passed small roadside houses, and I noticed children waving as vehicles went by. For travelers commuting, buses from the Cebu South Bus Terminal offer a budget-friendly option, while those with private vehicles can enjoy spontaneous stops for photos or short breaks. By the time we arrived in Balilihan, the cooler temperature instantly made me forget how long the journey was. The short walk toward Kawasan Falls, guided by the sound of flowing water, felt like a quiet reward.

Long before Kawasan Falls became a destination for visitors, it was already part of local life. Our guide shared that the falls once served as a natural water source for nearby communities. Elders say farmers used to rest here after long days in the fields, letting the cold water ease their tired bodies. The name โ€œKawasanโ€ comes from a local term meaning a shared or communal place, which felt fitting as we watched locals and visitors enjoy the falls together. As eco-tourism slowly developed in Bohol, the community chose to protect the area, keeping it peaceful and free from heavy commercialization.

Reaching Kawasan Falls required a short walk along a trail lined with trees, vines, and moss-covered stones. With every step we took, the sound of rushing water grew louder until the falls finally appeared before us. Clear, cold water cascaded over layered rocks into a calm natural pool. I watched sunlight reflect on the surface, creating shades of emerald and blue. Surrounded by trees, we felt naturally shaded and refreshed even under the midday sun.

To fully enjoy our visit, we made sure to bring:

  1. Extra clothes and towels
  2. Water shoes or sandals (the rocks can be slippery)
  3. Drinking water and light snacks
  4. A waterproof bag for phones and cameras
  5. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and small cash
  6. Most importantly, we brought respect for nature, making sure to leave no trash behind.

Before leaving, I sat quietly on a rock near the water and watched it flow endlessly over stone. In that moment, I realized that life doesnโ€™t need to be rushed like water, we all find our way in time. Dear Friends, Kawasan Falls in Balilihan may not be the loudest or most famous destination in Bohol, but its beauty lies in its peace, history, and simplicity. It doesnโ€™t demand attention it gently earns it. If you ever feel overwhelmed by noise, schedules, and crowds, let this hidden waterfall remind you how healing silence can be.
