Nicknames are interesting and I always find it funny how they stick. You just don't wake up and outrightly decide you're going to call someone a particular name suddenly. It is usually organic and then it becomes a thing. Some might not know how it started, but it becomes your name and might be used more than your real name.
Do you have a nickname or pet name given to you by someone else? What is it and why were you given it?
I've had several variations of nicknames from my childhood. There's one I was called for the longest time then and I had no idea what it meant until I was older. I was called Feteh by family and close family friends. I was told it was a nickname for one of the Nigerian currency coins back then. I think it was the 50 Kobo coin that's no longer in use.
The story was that I was very small as a newborn and I refused to eat which made me a tiny baby. They said I was small like the coin so they called me that. I remember being called this as a child and I would giggle, it sounded funny and I thought it was my name.
Another nickname I was called is a variation of my actual name. I'm still called KusKus till today and people don't know it's from my real name because that's not the name I go by on a regular day but it's my birth name. It's an ethnic name and it means Money-woman or wealthy woman.
My family calls me KusKus or Okus and I love it so much. Sometimes I run into people I don't remember knowing and they call me one of these names and I know for certain these people really knew me because only my family calls me these.
My favourite nickname is Cash Mama. A family friend that I don't even remember made this name stick. My name means money like I earlier said so that's where the man got it from. He'd see me afar off and he'd hail me "Cash Mama!" My head would swell because I loved the attention. Maybe in my little head, I thought I had all this money they kept hailing me for.
My parents picked up the name and that's how I became known as Cash Mama all these years. I am money and I love it 😄 Even when I didn't understand the concept of money back then as a little child, I've always had an affinity to money. It's something that always comes to me when I need it and I don't worry about it.
They say a good name is better than riches, I say a good name brings you riches and if you're called money, then heyyy, the money might as well come to you 🤷♀️
