The highest paid NFL coaches are lucky. Not only do they earn good coin, but their salary has no impact on a team’s salary cap, unlike a player's salary. Why teams are willing to pay such high salaries for certain coaches is simple - win-loss record and how many championships they’ve won.
Highest Paid NFL Coaches
Let’s take a look at the top ten NFL coaching salaries heading into the 2022 season.
10. Sean McDermott - Buffalo Bills ($8 million)
McDermott took over the job as head coach of the Bills in 2017 and has helped to transform Buffalo with four winning seasons. He’s been doing it in style with 10 or more wins in three consecutive years. Heading into the 2022 NFL season, McDermott has helped lead the Bills to the playoffs four times already, after the franchise went 17 years without an appearance.
The Bills were unlucky to lose to the Chiefs in the Divisional Playoffs in 2021. Buffalo are in a great position however, with McDermott at the helm and 2018 seventh overall pick Josh Allen at quarterback.

9. Andy Reid - Kansas City Chiefs ($8 million)
Reid is in his 24th NFL season as head coach, spending his first 14 seasons with the Eagles. He’s won at least 10 games in a season 16 times and has three conference championships. Reid had a record of 130-93-1 with the Eagles and heading into the 2022 season held a 103-42 record with the Chiefs.
With Patrick Mahomes at quarterback, Reid has made the most of his opportunity winning two AFC titles in four years and becoming Super Bowl LIV champions. Reid ranks fifth all-time for NFL coaching wins behind Don Shula, George Halas, Bill Belichick, and Tom Landry.

8. Mike Tomlin - Pittsburgh Steelers ($8 million)
Tomlin has been the head coach of the Steelers for 15 years, compiling an overall record of 154-85-2 as we head into the 2022 season. As an assistant coach he won Super Bowl XXXVII with the Tamba Bay Buccaneers.
As Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Tomlin has never had a losing season and has guided the team to the playoffs ten times. He’s also won two AFC Championships and Super Bowl XLIII with the Steelers.
In recent times the Steelers have been on a bit of a lull over the past five seasons, making the playoffs only three times and have failed to win a playoff game. Despite this fact, Tomlin remains one of the top head coaches in the NFL.
