This post will be the first of my #EldenRing series. I am currently playing this game on PS5 with my boyfriend. Actually it is in his account, and we agreed it will be a joint account just to play this game (too tiring to level up). I also got his permission to use the account for my blog post. We don't have a video of our entire gameplay, sorry!
It is pretty crazy! I thought in Elden Ring I would only be seeing normal people or animals as enemies but then this big thing appeared - and he is a legend boss! Need to defeat him because he is a big boss - although we don't really need to defeat him to advance in the game, it feels good to defeat him and maybe get some nice items after.
What is this Giant Serpent with a Human Head?
Actually at first, you won't see the human head. You will only see a giant snake. The name of this snake is 神喰らいの大蛇 (Kamigurai no Orochi) which literally translates to God-Devouring Serpent, its actual english name.
Did you know? Orochi (大蛇) appears in Japanese mythology as an eight-headed and eight-tailed serpent. I think it is also the basis of Orochi in the anime One Piece.
And if we check the kanji:

大 = big
蛇 = snake

Okay back to the game 😅
After defeating the God-Devouring Serpent, the human head will appear. His name is Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy, and this is actually the true form of the serpent. This boss is a Demi-God and is pretty strong like the serpent we just defeated.
Where can I find it/him?
This boss can be found in the volcanic region of Altus Plateau. There are two ways to get there, either by the portal at the depths of Volcano Manor or completing the requests of Tanith. I don't want to go into much detail because it's hard to translate and understand the game in japanese - we play in japanese with english audio. 😂 (I am not japanese but bf is so we use japanese as the main language for the game)
Is it hard to defeat it/him?
The boss fight was really a struggle!
Unfortunately, we need to defeat the God-Devouring Serpent first before defeating Rykard. That means Rykard is like the round 2 boss. Of course, it would be that hard! Not until...
At first we weren't using the sword near the entrance; we were just using the Rotten Breath spell and summoning Tiche. Tiche was not yet at the max level at that time so after a short while, he would die. In addition, after casting the spell and making sure the boss' health decreases, our character would just run away. Run, run, run! We managed to defeat the serpent but we ran out of luck defeating Rykard.
After reading some blogs and articles, we decided to try again. This time, we upgraded the sword we picked up. We also got the Mimic Tear summon and upgraded it to its max. And lastly we upgraded our character.
Now we're ready to kick some a*s!

With the upgrades, we successfully defeated the Serpent and Rykard - with minimal damage on our side.

What happens after?
Tanith, the refined lady from Volcano Manor, will try to feast on Rykard's remains in hopes of resurrecting him. Ewww..
I don't like to see her eating the remains so we killed her, so she's not in the photo anymore. 😏

Who would have thought it would just be this easy to defeat him? Kidding!
I think it's the same as life - we upgrade ourselves and learned from the past, so when we are faced with the same problem, we won't be doing the same thing we did before and from the upgrades we have, we will be able to overcome the problem. 😇

What is Elden Ring?
Elden Ring is the name of this epic game developed by From Software, and actually they collaborated with George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire which is then adapted into the famous TV series Game of Thrones. The game has the same concept as Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro (all from From Software) - it is an open world so players don't need to follow a certain path to progress in the game but instead can roam freely. You can read more of that in Wikipedia (because it's hard to explain hehe).
