일본 규제 당국이 스테이블코인 관련 블록체인 시스템의 시범 운용을 허가했다. 그간의 엄격한 규제 행보와는 다른 모습이다.

21일(현지시간) 암호화폐 전문 매체 코인텔레그래프에 따르면, 일본 블록체인 개발업체 크립토 가라지(Crypto Garage)는 ‘세틀넷(Settlenet)’ 시스템의 시범 운용을 허가를 받았다.

세틀넷은 블록스트림(Blockstream)사의 사이드체인 ‘리퀴드 비트코인(L-BTC)’을 기반으로 한다. 사이드체인은 각기 다른 블록체인에 있는 자산이 안전하게 거래되도록 하는 기술이다. 지난해 10월 블록스트림은 비트코인 확장성 문제를 해결하기 위해 비트코인 사이드체인 ‘리퀴드 네트워크’를 출시한 바 있다.

세틀넷은 이를 통해 거래소가 엔화 연동 스테이블 코인을 발행하고 거래할 수 있도록 돕는 합의 시스템이다. 또 교차 블록체인 거래를 할 수 있는 ‘아토믹 스왑(atomic swaps)’ 기능을 활용한다. 아토믹 스왑은 블록체인 거래 분야에서 실질적인 코인 교환 방법으로 주목받고 있다.

크립토 가라지 측은 “일본 정부의 규제 샌드박스 계획 하에 최초로 허가 받은 블록체인 금융 프로젝트”라며 “앞으로 1년간 암호화폐 거래소와 다양한 시험을 해볼 것”이라고 밝혔다. 이어 “이 시스템을 통해 빠르고 안전한 암호화폐 자산 거래가 가능할 것”이라며 “세틀넷으로 규제 당국에 자금세탁을 포함한 불법 거래를 감시하는 기능 또한 제공할 계획”이라고 덧붙였다.

SettleNet is a consensus system that helps the exchange to issue and trade yen-linked staple coins. It also utilizes the 'atomic swaps' feature, which allows cross-block chain transactions. Atomic swap is attracting attention as a practical coin exchange method in the field of block chain trading.

Krypto Garaji said, "It is the first block-chain financial project authorized under the regulatory sandbox plan of the Japanese government." "We will try various exchanges with the cryptographic exchange for the next year." "This system will enable fast and secure transactions of cryptographic assets," he said. "We plan to provide regulatory authorities with the ability to monitor illegal transactions including money laundering with SettNet."
