I don’t know how many of you have an Amazon echo or dot. I personally think they are great devices, but feck me they can be a bit of a pain if you want to setup multiple accounts on them.
I just finished watching an Eli Roth film called the Green Inferno, can sum it up in one word, m’eh, starts okay, some good gore, some slightly humiliating set pieces for some characters, anyway that’s not what I want to post about, if you like gore give it a shot but it’s nothing more than okay.
So, got shouted in for dinner, green Thai veg curry, nom, nom nom.
But I noticed a sound, a strange tinny buzzing sound, at first, I thought it might be a wasp in a tin, or maybe even two
Normally I would have been alarmed and shot out of the room like someone had shouted FREE GADGETS!! Only sweatier and more terrified.
It wasn’t a dreaded wasp invasion of my kitchen, but Wife was playing music through her phone while she as in the kitchen, and my god what a pitiful sound, so doing my cocky gadget swagger walk (I might trademark that phrase!) I enquired cleverly, “what’s that sound, is it a wasp in a tin?”
Quite pleased at my hilarity filled funny jibe I sat down and magnanimously said, right Wife we can’t be having this, no Wife of mines listens to bad phone speaker music.
Yeah, we’ve all been trapped in that that luciferian shitty music hell, where the music sounds like nails on Satan’s black board and a gaggle of noisy teenagers are happy to be “sticking it to the man.”
But that’s a story for another time.
I finished dinner, and sat contemplating how I would sort out this sham music speaker phone situation.
Then remembered that you can link accounts on the Alexa app account, but ummmm how would I do that?? To google, the font of all knowledge.
You can imagine whereabouts I think I sit in this,
But don’t tell the Wife, she thinks it’s all thumping techno and wild inspirations when it comes to the gadget fixes in the house, not sweating and swearing and wondering why the feck did I even start this, because when I start I won’t leave things till I get them working. I don’t know how many nights I have still been sitting at the computer on Google and thinking if I go to bed now I’ll get four hours sleep, ach I only need three it’ll be fine.
Armed with a bit of google misinformation I figured out the following,
Go to the Alexa app on the phone that controls the Echo dot.
Go to settings
Go to the setting up a household, and get the Wife to log into that part.
Go back to the account settings and then link a Spotify PREMIUM account, if it’s not a premium account you can’t stream Spotify to the device.
Open the Spotify app, play some music and pick a device to stream to, Boof yer done!
You think it’s going to work, don’t you?
Well the first attempt was smooth as butter,
“aw Wife look at that it works a treat!”
She played a tune, streamed it to the dot and we were all good in the “hood.”
The wolf is actually all the gadgets I have stalking me in the night waiting to fail on me…
Then she said, okay but what happens if you have been connected to the device and I want to change to me?
Ach ‘sake Wife, you and your details, right let me check and see what account the dot is using, according to the guide all I had to say was, “Alexa, which account is this?”
Okay, I am going to share a YouTube vid with you, I am Scottish and get this all the time.
This is the pain I endure every day with so called voice control. By the end I was screaming at the thing, Alexa, c’mon to feck, just tell me what the account is? Why are you being like this? The Wife says why don’t you try an English accent, I actually tried it.
Ages later I figured out the Alexa switch account voice command, voice cracking and on the edge of hysteria!
Finally, some progress, but aw naw, the phones were down to single digit charges. It felt like all tech had just went a but Skynet on me, is this their revenge for being left on or sitting under the bed when I got bored with them?
So, account switched I called Wife back in, she had wandered away bored long before and I shamefully hadn’t noticed. Okay, so here you go, you switch account and then open the Spotify app, so works perfectly for Wife, when I tried it the icon for the dot won’t show up in available devices,
I gave up for a while and tried to sort the car insurance, but that’s a really horrible chore and thought nah devices, I am thy master!! Not the other way around.
Noticed this time when I removed and re-added Wife to the family settings part of the Alexa app that there were no errors this time, had I mentioned that? That there were errors before and I kinda ignored them? Umm, okay we won’t talk about that.
I added Wife to the device properly this time, but same thing happened.
Now this is the part I wanted to share if any of you lovely Steemites, the method I found that works and saves you hours of annoyance and frustration.
Say to Alexa, “Alexa, switch account”
Say to Alexa “Alexa, connect Spotify”
Open the Spotify app and connect to the echo dot.
Do the same if you want to switch to another account, seems you can’t have two connections from Spotify to the echo dot, but switching like above works well and hasn’t failed yet.
Oh No, I’ve just noticed the Bose in the bedroom has fallen off the network…again!! Aaargh, there goes more time fixing.
It’s the Gremlins, I’m sure of it!!
