Since 2010, Google started to use site performance as a factor in Websites Ranking. Indexing web pages by their responsiveness in web browsers was already a priority. However, Google foresaw the impact mobile devices will end up having on our behavior. As a result, in 2015, attention towards mobile website acceptability grew with the “mobile-first” movement.
In February 2017, 49.74% of worldwide web page views came from mobile devices. The average mobile penetration rate for mobile broadband subscriptions was 50% at that time. The US and Europe led the market with 78.2% and 76.6%, respectively.
