Yeah, I wonder how much of it changes in the game vs. just being comfortable with what we grew up with.
We grew up with media scarcity, where slowing down with a long book was a good way to fill time because there was literally nothing else to do. While "kids these days" are bombarded with so much stimulus from the moment they're born. And it seems like the games reflect it.
Although I watched the Scottish comedian Limmy playing Overwatch on Twitch for a bit the other day. What the hell is going on in that game? He seemed to do just fine, although he's older than me.
