Nah.
Hello weekend,
Something about this week’s topic made me turn red in the cheeks.
A nickname or pet name I have given to someone else that stuck and how they earned it.
I’m a huge sucker for romance and the likes. I adore love languages, pet names, romantic gestures etc. which is also the main reason I chose this particular topic.
In addition, I recently gave someone a pet name so I guess the universe worked with @galenkp to generate this topic for me to come across.
Either way, this is how it all went down.
Yes It’s short story time so kindly brace for that.
There’s a new guy I started talking to a couple weeks ago, we have a few things in common and that stimulates the conversation to a pleasant level.
As an over thinker, I naturally pay attention to people’s behavior through texts first to study the kind of person I’m dealing with.
So I noticed he just like me, likes to take things slow. He doesn’t randomly jump into flirty or inappropriate messages, we rather enjoy talking to each other in a warm and cordial level before we get to anything else.
Anyway, asides admiring him for being a gentleman, he would also at random send snaps of himself with a short caption “Winnie I’m stressed” or he would ask me for some breakfast and dinner ideas or he would inform me that he’s playing video games along with some snaps of it.
He does these quirky gestures I find cute and babyish and I’ve come to really like it. It makes me feel like a part of his daily activity but of course it ends there, we’re staying focused. Love is canceled at the moment in this girl’s life.
Further more, there is a particular nickname I deem exclusive only to the person I decide to date - Boybie it’s a morphological derivation from “Baby(ie)Boy.”
I would call anyone “hun”, “boo” etc but never Boybie as it’s an obscure nickname to me which makes it extremely special.
Since I’m in fact not dating and currently in my flirt phase, I called this mystery man Boybie during one of our conversations yesterday. It was like my fingers had a mind of its own, it typed the nickname and pressed send before I could stop myself. Maybe I was in control and maybe I wasn’t, I guess we’ll never know.
Moreover, incase you’re wondering what prompted it, this was how the convo went:
Him: What’re you doing?
Me: Texting.
Him: Only me?
Me knowing damn well I was texting both him and my other pieces: Yes boybie.
Wow why does typing the truth makes you feel worse than actually saying it. But hey nothing can go wrong with a little white lie right ;)
I have never mistakenly slipped this nickname to any friend and I can already tell that our text relationship would move one step higher to tease town but that’s story for another day as this short story has ended.
Well, that doesn’t remove the elephant in the room. I just broke my one rule - calling a friend my special nickname. Or maybe I don’t see him as just a friend after all.
It may be the excess potatoes I had earlier talking but I think it could be time for a change.
Someone who isn’t my man has officially earned my special nickname even if it happened from an innocent lie.
I mean he acts like a big baby boy around me which I like a lot so I guess that prompted it, nonetheless there is no going back now.
In essence acting babyish towards me earned him the nickname and for no specific I think it will stick.
