Am in love with this post by David Etido
Your Excellency! Nigerians too, deserve this 'Yusuf's treatment' .
I want to welcome all my friends on this platform to this promising new year, in this new year, we shall be bold and courageous to speak the truth and fight the wrongs in our nation.
I have been one who is quick to dismiss the inadequacies of Mr. President by coming up with excuses of health, old age and most especially the rot and collapse of our systems which he inherited, but recent happenings has made me to ponder on the priorities of the Nigerian Leader, as I now begin to feel that his supposed inadequacies have been deliberate all this while.
On the eve of Tuesday, 26th December 2018, Yusuf Buhari, the only son of the Nigerian President, and one who is under the care and security of the state, funded by Tax payers money went for a jolly ride within the Abuja Metropolis, and was most unfortunately involved in a ghastly accident that has left him hospitalised for days now, with rumours of injury to his brain and a fractured limb. The reaction of Mr. President to this incidence is where I draw my inferences from.
Mr. President immediately on wednesday, hours after the incident suspended all activities on his itinerary and made a visit to his ailing son at Cerdecrest Hospital Abuja. That visit in his opinion was not enough, he subsequently made a return trip to the hospital for another visit sometime on friday the 26th. I don't want to talk about the government officials that thronged the hospital to see Yusuf, this post is not about them. But Buhari's immediate response to this tragedy on a member of his family has made me look retrospectively and wonder why since the inception of this administration, upon the numerous tragedies that has befallen Nigerians at one point in time or the other, from the floods in Benue, the countless massacre in Enugu, Adamawa, Benue, etc to the Bombings, Boko Haram Attacks and even the outbreak of Monkey Pox epidemic, our president has never deemed it worthy to visit the victims of these misfortunes. Sadly, it most times took the yelling of Nigerians to even get him to react to these incidences even if it's on Facebook and Twitter. Now considering the excuses again, I ask, if old age, Ill health, and urgent matters of state prevented His Excellency from making those visits or even reacting to them, why has these impediments gone on strike now that his son is involved?
Another Headline that caught my attention is that the President hired a team of qualified medical Doctors to attend to his son at the Hospital. The news report reads in part:
" It was gathered that globally-acclaimed neurosurgeons in persons Professor Temitayo Shokunbi and Professor Bello Bala Shehu, the current vice chancellor of Federal University Birnin-Kebbi, have relocated to Cedarcrest Hospital Abuja to lead the team of surgeons.
Part of the team are the medical director of the hospital, Dr Felix Ogedegbe and director of surgical services, Dr. Kingsley Ekwe. Inside sources said the team is also supported by an anaesthesiologist and nurses."
Again I ask the following questions, if this was a list of appointment for NNPC Board members, would we have seen such a fair list with names of people from other tribes apart from the President's dominating the list? Why did the President not give the task of treating his only son solely to his brothers as it has been his culture to appoint mostly his kinsmen into any political office for which he is exercising his right to appoint?? Most times such appointments are made without consideration being given to merit or excellence.
This means that the President knows and understands the need for one to be qualified and have reasonable experience before a task is entrusted to that person. So the lopsided appointments of majorly Northerners into the most sensitive offices not minding their extreme old age or lack of capacity is actually intentional and not like the President is ignorant of the need for merit and fairness.
My Motivation for writing this is the current situation in Benue, the people of Benue do not need President Buhari but Daddy Yusuf. Nigerians no longer need a President that needs an hour's documentary to prove his humane side, but one who is moved by the pains and troubles of his people. Mr. President should arise with the same compassion he has shown his son and see to the elimination of the horrors of the Fulani Herdsmen in Nigeria. Nigerians are also his children.
Benue does not need our prayers, they need Government responsiveness.
