October is here! The month when shadows grow longer, temperatures drop, and the perfect excuse to lock yourself in for a horror movie marathon becomes self-evident. But not all scary movies are the same; some aim for cheap scares, others for deep discomfort, and some are simply guilty pleasures we love revisiting.

Here is my personal list of 9 movies for this month. They are not all the movies that exist, nor are they necessarily the best in history, but they are the ones that make me feel like October has truly arrived.

9. Wrong Turn (2003)

The first part remains the best of the franchise for its simplicity and effectiveness. It takes us to the forests of West Virginia, where a group of young people encounters "something" that shouldn't exist. It's a pure slasher: chases, ingenious traps, mutant cannibals, and a constant feeling of isolation. If you're looking for the classic "don't get out of the car" horror, this is the winning choice.

8. 13 Ghosts

A visual feast of the grotesque. It plays incredibly well with the setting: a glass house that is, in itself, a deadly trap. Beyond the creature designs, which remain shocking, it's a raw story of family survival.

7. Survival Island

Horror for fun. It won't change your life or keep you from sleeping, but it has that B-movie charm that's enjoyed with friends, popcorn, and zero serious expectations.

6. When Evil Lurks

It is possibly the freshest and most visceral thing I've seen in years. It shows that Latin American horror has its own identity, dark and brutal, capable of unsettling even the most seasoned viewer. Unmissable.

5. Anaconda

Animal-based horror has something primal that fascinates us. Anaconda is the perfect example of that visceral fear: the perfect predator hidden in the jungle. There are no ghosts or demons, just nature reminding us that, on its turf, we are food.

4. Child's Play

Forget the modern version that flirts with black comedy. The first part of Child's Play is an exercise in genuine psychological tension. Before the doll became a pop icon, it was a nightmare that knew how to play with our minds.

3. Jeepers Creepers

This is the kind of film that proves you don't need a Marvel budget to create a horror icon. With a small cast and a concise premise, they manage to build a legend that feels ancient and dangerous. The fear of what lurks on the road is something universal.

2. The Exorcist

The definition of claustrophobic horror. It's not just the supernatural horror, it's the feeling that the walls of the room are closing in on you and reality is crumbling. It remains the undisputed queen of the genre because it gets under your skin and doesn't leave.

1. The Sixth Sense

Maybe it's more of a psychological thriller than pure horror, but it's essential for October. It's not based on jump scares, but on the terror of uncertainty. It makes you look at the corners of your own house differently. It's a masterclass in how the deepest fear is often the one we can't see clearly.

Now you have a complete marathon for the whole month! Any favorites among the new additions?
