Tendiamo a ricordare meglio ci貌 che rimane incompiuto

Today I would like to talk about the Zeigarnik effect, a phenomenon studied in social psychology that can be very useful in everyday life to increase our productivity.

Bluma Zeigarnik was a Lithuanian psychologist who lived at the beginning of the last century who focused her studies on maintaining people's attention.
The fundamental law that stems from her studies, called "Zeigarnik effect" says that:

We tend to remember better what remains unfinished

The experiments to prove this phenomenon are simple:

  • If we show an audience a commercial that is unfinished, that commercial (and therefore that product) remains in the minds of those who have seen it for up to 2 weeks.
  • If we show a group of girls pictures of some boys who in turn have judged them, the girls will tend to give better ratings to the boys whose respective ratings they do not know.

More than 600 experiments like these have been conducted and have shown incontrovertible results.
So we tend to remember more carefully and then focus on the details of things when they are not fully accomplished, or are in complete, this is due to our brain's native need for conclusion, what is not concluded remains in our memory and creates stress for us for a long time.

CONCLUSION

From this psychological law we can draw a valuable rule to increase our productivity: If we are accustomed to procrastinate some activities and we want to improve ourselves the secret is to leave these activities incomplete giving our brain a sense of incompleteness that it will want at all costs to fill.

Are you writing a book or a great post on Hive? Great... whenever you have to stop the activity stop halfway through the paragraph, especially if you know very well what to say, this way it will be easier and more stimulating to resume and finish your work.
