The title of this post, "Roots Never Die," refers to this first black and white photograph of the large roots of a tree that, a few years ago, was alive and so tall it reached more than halfway up the building where I live, on the 11th floor. It's sad that the tree is gone, at least physically, because the roots are still there and serve as a powerful reminder of its presence.
The reason they removed the tree was because its roots were lifting part of the walkways in the building, but in the end, I don't think it affected anything. I think it was simply a human whim to destroy nature.
It was undoubtedly a large and beautiful tree. I remember sometimes sitting there in the afternoons just to spend a few minutes breathing in the fresh air, and now it's as if it never existed. But every time I look over, I can see those vestiges of how beautiful that tree once was. The other photos in this post may not be related to what I'm talking about, but they're part of the series I took that day.
All photos are my own.
