Yesterday, we decided to head to Delaware Park for Beers and Gears 2017. We've been to both beer festivals and car shows before and we've enjoyed both, so we figured why not check them out at the same time.
The first car we found was Squirtle team (or squad or something). Interesting. :)
The next one was a 1967 Plymouth Fury III which we find interesting because it was my first car and the car we drove for our first real date.
We saw a bunch of cars, but only took a few pictures for family. One because it was really old.
One because it had a Jean plate on the front.
And these two because we thought maybe we would lover Becky's car. :)
But we were really interested in tasting the beers. Well, I was anyway.
The first place I stopped was at the Rogue table. Both were beers I've had before, but I grabbed a cup of Dead Guy Ale.
At the table next to it, I found this Passion Fruit Kicker by Green Flash. Interesting, very drinkable, but too fruity for me.
Then I decided to visit the Terrapin table. As expected, they had Hopsecutioner available and it was receiving a lot of attention. I'm not a huge fan, so I opted for the Hi 5 IPA, which is pretty good.
Next was Honeysuckle Rose, a Belgian Blonde Ale by Blue Earl Brewing. I'm a fan of Belgian Ales, but this one didn't impress me at all.
Our tickets came with one "food item" but when we learned the only choice was mac and cheese, we decided to go visit the food trucks. Not a lot of vegetarian options, but we did find a Kapow! truck with some interesting rice bowls. We are used to paying the meat tax on menu items we need adjusted, but the owner was nice enough to knock $2 off the price of each bowl and give us each a tortilla since we told him we didn't want the chicken. Nice enough that we went with the two bowls even though we had planned to share one. We also had some very tasty cheese fries.
Turns out the fries alone would have been enough food!
Back at the beer tent, we tried two interesting brews from Small Town Brewery from Los Angeles - Not Your Father's Mountain Ale and Not Your Mother's Iced Tea. These were probably my favorite tastes of the day.
Up until this point in the day, the people at the tables were very friendly and happy to share all sorts of info about the beers. The next few tables, were not so friendly. I went to the Twin Lakes table and they didn't even bother to greet me.
So, I popped over to the next table to try Winter Storm by Heavy Seas. Great color, heavy caramel taste. Very good!
We decided to take a break and go redeem our slots coupons. Having grown up in the shadow of Atlantic City, we have fond memories of nights out on the town that only cost us a few dollars. We were hoping today might turn out like one of those nights, but this time we were not so lucky.
First of all, redeaming the coupons turned out to be quite an ordeal. We walked about a mile to find out where to redeem them. We had to sign up for the players cards and then the money was put on the cards. We found a penny slot machine and started spinning away our money. The macine wouldn't let us cash out more than what we won in addition to the five, so I walked away from that machine with a ticket for $1.45. Then we hit a quarter machine and spun away the other card. In the end, we lost $2.88 of our own money, plus the $10 they had given us as part of our tickets. I can live with that.
On our way back to the car, we decided to try a few more brews.
A very tasty stout by 16 Mile.
An interesting Blueberry something by Flying Fish.
And a very smoky Brown Ale from Revelation.
On the way home, we got whatever this is from Starbucks.
