Totoro theme park set to open in 2020!
Earlier today while surfing the interwebs, I came across an article that revealed that a theme park based on the world of My Neighbor Totoro by Studio Ghibli. The idea of a theme park that will immerse guests into the world of Miyzaki is beyond epic. Never have been to Japan myself but being a lover of anime, especially the works of Hayao Miyazaki, the creation of this theme park just bumped Japan up on my list of places to visit, outside of the US. If you don’t know of the movie My Neighbor Totoro, you might have seen or heard of the award winning movie Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle.
The theme park is planned to be built in Aichi Expo Park in Nagoya, Japan. The 200 acre park will be entirely based on the movie with the house of Sasuki and Mei’s house already built is slotted to be opened as early as 2020. With the Studio Ghibli Museum already drawing fans to Mitaka in the western part of Tokyo, the new attraction will hopefully draw more tourism to the exhibits according to both Studio Ghibli and Expo Park administration. Original post that I read can be found HERE
My Neighbor Totoro was written and directed by co-founder Hayao Miyazaki and revered as one of the most successful films to be released by the studio. It is my personal hope that with the village from Mimi’s Delivery Service being recreated and now this new venture, that more attractions from other beloved Ghibli films will be soon to follow.
If I can’t make it to the grand opening of the park at least I’ll be able to watch Miazaki’s new film that will be a CG feature possibly called Boro the Catepillar.
As always thanks you for your attention!
