yeah most people got sick of the greed and when they made it free to play the game had been around for so long that new players were completely lost as far as the controls and various aspects of the game that veterans had just gotten used to. I bailed on the game as soon as it got toxic and was clearly hiding advancements behind a season pass or some other paywall. That is one aspect of "modern gaming" that I can definitely do without.
