It's been ages(about 5 years) since I wrote my last post on this platform. After a long, busy life schedule, I finally got some free time to spend here. Throughout our lives, we keep hearing that it is essential to have high ambitions. Dream big. Hustle harder. Never settle. But is it as easy to do as it is to say? The people who "make it" want it more than everyone else. Ambition gets painted as the fuel that separates the successful from the average.

Sometimes it seems like we've turned it into a religion.

Ambition isn't automatically bad. Wanting more than what you have can push you to grow, learn, and leave situations that are slowly killing you. A healthy dose of it has helped many people build better lives. The problem starts when ambition becomes the only measure of a person's worth.

Nowadays, it's always about climbing up. If you're not expanding, improving, or chasing the next goal, people see you as not progressing enough. And those who are genuinely okay with a simpler, quieter life get treated like they've given up. And that's when ambition starts to feel overrated.

A lot of ambitious people get exhausted. They're constantly measuring and comparing themselves against someone who is further ahead. They achieve one goal and barely enjoy it before the next one takes over. The finish line keeps moving, and the distance between you and it keeps expanding. At some point, the chase becomes more important than the life they're wishing for.

There's also this strange idea that if you're not ambitious, you're somehow less meaningful in this society & your life only counts if it's impressive on paper. But some of the most interesting and peaceful people you'll meet aren't trying to conquer the world. They're just living it. They're present. They're kind. They're enjoying it, and They're not constantly calculating their next move.

Maybe the actual question isn't whether ambition is good or bad. Maybe it's whether we've made it more important than it needs to be.

Wanting things is human nature. Growth is healthy. But constant hunger for growth isn't the same as living well. There's a difference between moving forward and running from yourself. Ambition might be a tool. It doesn't have to be your identity.

Maybe ambition isn’t overrated. Maybe our obsession with it is.
