There are two names for the season that comes after summer and before winter; autumn and fall. Autumn is an American term while fall is a British term. Either word is correct when used to describe this season.
Leaves fall off of deciduous trees during this season and the expression, "Fall of the leaf" is of English origin.
Before the leaves fall off the tree, they turn colors first. Chlorophyll makes the leaves green through photosynthesis of the sun. As the days get shorter with less sunlight and the weather gets colder, chlorophyll begins to break down which enables us to see other pigments in the leaves.
Pigments called "carotenes" make the leaves look red and orange. Pigments called "xathophylls" make them look yellow.
As pretty as this looks, I am really looking forward to seeing everything green once again.
