The Germans were the first to use jet fighters in WW2. Although they came too late to affect the outcome of the war, they ushered a new age of the jet fighter that made the piston engined fighter obsolete.

It was able to outrun any allied fighter in the air but suffered engine problems and were slow on takeoff. This left them vulnerable to Allied fighters who waited to pounce on them near German airfields.
