A week ago today I lost a very special lady in my life. My Aunt Claudia. She was one of those people who had a heart of gold. She was always there to help others. She had troubles in her life as we all do from time to time. Looking back I have so many regrets where she is concerned. I did not visit or call as often as I could have. Isn't this the thing that we all regret once it is too late? I wake every morning and think of her. I know as time goes past, the days will begin to go by and I will think of her less and less. Not because my love will lessen but because she will be gone for a longer amount of time. I will never have the chance again to call her, to go visit her, she will be a memory. I have so many memories of her that are so precious to me. I will forever cherish these. A couple of things happened last week as the family came together to mourn and lend a shoulder and hug to one another. One morning my husband and I decided to go early to my other aunts home to be with my cousins. He could not find his phone. We looked everywhere and no sign of it so we went on our way. My aunt and one of my cousins helped us look for his phone at her house. Not knowing where he last placed it, we thought maybe he left it there the night before. No luck. After we were there about an hour my cell phone rang and it was his cell phone calling. He had not found it , he was sitting in the living room talking with my uncle. After we spent time with the family and returned home, i dialed his number and walked to the back yard. I heard it ringing from inside our dog pen. Guess the dogs called me. Later in the week after many tears we were sitting beside the fire in our chairs and I decided to post on Facebook. My laptop would not turn on. I charged it, still no power. I put it aside with an angry heart. The next morning I rose early and made myself a cup of coffee and sat by the fire. I went to our guest bathroom not wanting to wake Phil. It overflowed on me. I plunged it and cleaned the floor. I decided to busy myself with laundry. As I began to hang the hand towel on the rack in the bathroom, it fell to the floor. I placed the towel on the counter next to the sink and walked away, again with an angry heart. My next visit to the potty, Phil was up so I decided to not chance a repeat of the earlier catastrophe and went into our bathroom. As I flushed the toiilet the handle remained down. I took the top off and sure enough the chain that allowed the toilet to flush and refill had broken. I walked to the bedroom, stood in the middle of the floor and began to speak to no one, just told the air I was breaking everything and I should not touch anything else. I sat in my chair by by the fire and cried. Just for a moment though, the tears came and stopped all at once. I reminded myself I had to get dressed to go to my aunts and then to the funeral home. The evening was very sad indeed. Tears flowed from everyone who came to show respect for my aunt and her children. I saw family and friends I hadn't seen in years. Isn't that the way it always is though? My aunts grandson walked over to me at the funeral home and said he wished the family could get together once a year without it having to be at a funeral. I looked down and replied to him that I agreed. It is so sad that families fall so far apart and a death is what it takes to bring them together. Isn't that just the way it is? After the funeral the family again gathered at my aunts home to say goodbye to one another and comfort each other one last time. My aunt asked me if I had heard what had happened to my daddy earlier that day. I did not and asked her to tell me. Around the middle of the evening earlier that day my daddy's phone rang. When he looked to see who was calling him, the phone read Claudia. Some how, where ever her phone was a call had been placed to my daddy. No one knew for sure where her phone was. Wouldn't it be wonderful to get one last call, to have one last chance to say, thank you, or I love you? One last call to tell someone how much their being a part of your life has meant to you. I think it would be wonderful if we all could just treat each other as if that last call may be our last. I think we all should call, text, write to one another more often. I think we should take time out of our busy important lives and visit each other, not wait until the last visit and have all the would have, could have, should have been. We are only human and our ways are time tested and true. We will all see each other again sooner or later, wonder which one of us we will be saying goodbye to next? Funny or sad: that is about all I can remember of last week. A few more thoughts and memories and that is all. Thank you God for my many blessings, and for my family. Hold my hand each day, and remind me next time we all come together that it does not have to be for a sad reason. God Bless you all, my family and friends. Goodbye, to a special lady who made me laugh and cry. Whose memory I will hold dear forever.
