Bitcoin quotes

Now that we are somewhat below Bitcoin ATH and the euphoria is simmering down a bit, there is time to revisit some of the best quotes on Bitcoin. Some of these quotes are direclty about Bitcoin, others are more general but have a relevance to what we are trying to achieve with Bitcoin and cryptcurrenciies.

Without further ado, see my person top 10 below. I tried to give each quote the proper attribution insofar possible.

  1. Quote: "Government say they are worried that criminals will use bitcoin. In truth, they are terrified that all the rest of us will" - Andreas Antonopoulos

  2. Quote: "the advent of cryptocurrency, when in full bloom, will be seen as an event in human history at least as important as the internet itself. Being a subset of, or dependent upon the global network, it cannot arguably eclipse it entirely, but since it will be the store of human value it's fundamental nature raises it's importance quite a bit. Cryptocurrency is the progeny of the internet. But the child may in time rise to heights not possible for the father. We naturally underestimate the vast importance of money. All of us playing tiddlywinks with the future here on bitcointalk will look back with amazement saying "if we only knew". The game we play is to uncover the clues to what will eventually be seen as inevitable and impossible not to have happened." - cAPSLOCK

  3. Quote: "In the province of financial journalism, bitcoin unmasks the Statists" - Jon Matonis

  4. Quote: "Bitcoin needs millions, and then billions, of users who demand better money. The demand for Bitcoin must be strong enough that they will break the law if that’s what it takes to obtain it." - name unknown (article not retreivable)

  5. Quote: "Bitcoin, the world's first decentralized digital currency, provides a potent example of technology allowing us to transform into more highly-evolved self-leaders who refuse all external authorities, in contrast to the milennia-old sheep-like follow the herd mentality, now waning in its power and ubiquity. Central bankers will meet their match. You can't bomb a bitcoin." - Logan Albright

  6. Quote: "It's not your money in that bank account; it's their money. You don't issue it, you don't own it, you don't control it. You are simply allowed to use it under strict terms of those who issue it, own it, and control it. Bitcoin, on the other hand..." - niko

  7. Quote: "As the world slowly comes to recognize the usefulness of decentralized trustless ledgers, and later comes to understand money as an entry on such a ledger, I believe the detractors to the currency-aspect of bitcoin will lose their voice. What could be better money be than entries on a global trustless Ledger, freely-accessible via bitcoin's protocol rules, and secured by the largest single-purpose computing network ever created?" - name unknown (Bitcointalk thread too large to search)

  8. Quote: "It is no crime to be ignorant of economics Bitcoin, which is, after all, a specialized discipline technology and one that most people consider to be a 'dismal science.' 'magical internet money.' But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects Bitcoin while remaining in this state of ignorance" - attribution unclear (zerohedge)

  9. Quote: "Bitcoin is going to disrupt every power structure there is in society today. It is going to end the say-so of the oil baron heirs of the 1800s, it is going to end the United States' economic dominance and its reserve currency, and it is going to streamline the economy to end many of the scale advantages that large corporations have held, decentralizing the entire worldwide economy. Bitcoin is going to change society to a larger extent than the Internet. But this won't be obvious in 2013, or 2014, or even 2015. It is going to be felt in 2025, and obvious in 2035" - Edward Snowden

  10. Quote: "As I said before, no one really knows if the time has come when ‘mere agreement’ can serve as a foundation for value. And as such, we don’t know if Bitcoin will succeed or not. But if it does, as I claimed at the very beginning of this piece, it will herald a new age of human civilisation. This was no hyperbole. It will be the first time that a true currency has come into being on the basis of mere agreement only (Yap counts as a proof of concept only). The implications of this accomplishment will be enormous. It will represent the first genuine instance of emergent and de-centralised global self governance. I can’t overstate how remarkable an achievement this will be. It will open a Pandora’s Box of possibility. We will have proved to ourselves that we can sustain a currency on the basis of mere agreement only. We will have proved that we can govern ourselves directly. Currency will just be the beginning. We won’t want to stop there" - name unknown @Bitcointalk
