So my ex-roommate lives in the next building to me. She was riding her bike home from work and right before I left for a graveyard shift she texted me saying "there's an owl outside above the suv across the street. If you have a flash go take some pictures!" So I ran outside with camera in hand. I took a few pictures before a man came outside and asked what I was taking photos of... his daughter had said there was a guy outside taking photographs. Good on her. He came outside, and I explained that there was an owl in the trees and I had no intentions of taking creepy photos through their windows haha. He then followed the owl as well as eventually brought his daughter out to see him/her. They were amazed by the size of the bird and asked what I thought they ate. I assumed small rodents such as mice, according to my grade 3 teacher who brought in fecal matter from an owl, that was all I knew. Turns out that as well, or possibly all they eat is worms as you can see from the photo below.

After a concerned neighbour came out saying that a flash may not be good for the eyes of a nocturnal being, I decided to stop taking shots of the bird. Turns out that it's a debatable subject, but a single photographer probably wouldn't make much difference in the birds life, depending on what it was up to. Either way, I stopped and got a few good shots, but seeing as it was so dark, it made it difficult to frame properly. Sorry for the poor images.worm.jpg

Anyways, just wanted to share with you all a little seen bird who hangs out in the neighbourhood I do.Hope it brightened your day.... or night.

oh, and a couple other pictures I took that morning.
A great Blue Heron in the trees... Right above my car...
Let me tell you, their poop is nothing like another birds...
it's like a soft ball sized piece of mud tossed at your car...
not cool.
