A couple reasons to celebrate in my world! I just got a new job (kind of... more of a new permanent schedule, but exciting nonetheless.) And the girlfriend and I purchased tickets to Cairo, Egypt!
So I decided I would have a celebratory beer for the occasion. I decided it was time to crack the last of what might be my all time favourite beer. I have been holding onto it for a few months now and even though it's an IPA and they're best enjoyed fresh, I just couldn't bring myself to drink the last of this seasonal offering without a good reason. So without further ado, Sartori Harvest IPA from Driftwood Brewery.
Sartori Harvest is a wet-hopped IPA that can only be brewed once a year during the hop harvest. The fresh centennial hops from Sartori Farms near Chilliwack BC are rushed to Victoria and thrown right into the brew kettle asap giving it a unique flavour as opposed to a traditional IPA. It's the best part of autumn and my favourite time of year.
I don't think it's necessary to tell you how it looked or poured as there's photo evidence of that, but look at that pillowy head!
I find most fresh hopped beers to have more of a subdued, grassy type of flavour and this is no exception, but using centennial hops (basically a super cascade hop) There's plenty of that classic west coast bitter IPA flavour. Lots of pine and citrus. It's well balanced with a good malt backbone as well, giving a sweet cane sugar flavour as it warms.
Hope you all enjoyed the post a fraction of as much as I enjoyed the beer, cheers!
