.
I see fall
orange begun of
and sometimes married to green
yellow also begun of green
and red of yellow or orange
in incredulous count
and measure
.
I hear fall
a few of the birds
I feed in winter come by
to say hello
and
we twitter
back and forth
about
nothing
at
all
as
my heart sings
and is
happy
.
I smell fall
I smell small endings
and the twist of time when
the cold breath
of the moon
descends
to
us
.
I feel fall
a gradual crispness
the leaves of all colors
letting go . . . . letting go
.
the tree before
and the tree
now
all
different
every day
.
the
softening
changes in
.
light
.
but
.
something is
different
I feel sad
for brothers and sisters
and for everyone’s
children
.
my solace
to see and hear
and smell and feel
the turning
thresh
of
fall
