A number of things need to be secured, especially in this day and age. Physically, you want your properties secured; a known vacant house is a prime target for being burglarized and vandalized. Vacant homes are also targeted for drug dealing, stashing and/or drug dens. I know from experience. If illegal methamphetamines have been “cooked” in the house, as I understand, the by-products are so toxic that a hazmat remediation might need to be performed.
In today’s economy, the chance to steal a bunch of copper plumbing and brass fixtures is very tempting. You also have to carry insurance coverage, you never know when vandals will break in and deface the property for the hell of it, an amateur thief breaks in and tears up your work, or you get hit by professionals. The fact that you have a second property (or more) already makes you a target as it is. You want to look into asset protection, in the event you have the mishap of getting sued, frivolously or righteously. I’m never suggesting to be out here hiding assets with the intention to defraud people, but you’d be a fool to not protect yourself and your family from preventable misfortune. The famous author Robert Kiyosaki is a huge advocate of carrying more than enough insurance, just because life can be so unpredictable.
Who could have predicted 2017 would be a year for major natural disasters to hit back to back with no breaks? The US was hit with Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma (speaking of, I have a god friend that had issues with home repairs from damage done by Irma), Puerto Rico being devastated, wildfires in California (which have recently started up again). In these types of situations, government resources will be stretched thin and allocated at their pace. As I heard in the military, “Now that you know, it would behoove you to make an effort to look out for yourself.”
IN these times, it’s not a bad investment to even think in terms of cyber security. Your files are probably stored digitally, and tons of information is transferred across the Internet daily. My car was recently stolen; as I understand there is a device now that can clone your key FOB from a distance but it takes two people to operate it. To prying eyes, you may stand out as a target if they see you’re doing good production numbers. With the crypto currency craze, especially the phenomenal numbers being done by Bitcoin, digital wallets would be a huge score for would be thieves. You know Bitcoin is popular when your seven year old comes home from school asking about Bitcoin!
The idea is that for everyone trying to add value to the world, and earn their money that way, there will always be those that seek out weaknesses to exploit for their personal gain. So if you’re one of the positive forces in the world, it is a must that you adequately protect yourself. Always keep in mind that law enforcement is just that, they cannot enforce the law until it is broken. Even if you suspect a crime is about to be committed, law enforcement cannot act until the crime has been committed. Insure everything!
