This post either blow your mind or disgust you a little depends on what kinds of a coffee drinker you are. I'm a black coffee kind of person. By that I mean, without thinking I would just order 'Iced Americano' everywhere I go. Very occasionally that I order caramel macchiato when feeling like some sweet or dessert.
Though, besides plain black coffee, the other kind I like is a shot of espresso in any kind of juices that I imagine it will go together well with the coffee shot. Here are a few that I have had and been loving it and sure would love to order on a Thailand hot day.
Just as it sounds, mild sweet, unique coconut scent and super refreshing. This one I would recommend you pair it with some chocolaty taste coffee. Anything darker than medium roast is ideal. Not only to pair have it inform of coconut water with an espresso shot, I also love when they use coconut juice, milk, and some sugar in it a bit (of course when you feel like something more sweet and creamy).
In Vietnam, they have this kind of coffee all over. I remember having a cup of blended coconut juice, milk, meat then topped with a shot of coffee. That's like ice-cream! Yum!!
This one, I thought it was a little weird when I found out about it from my Korean friend who used to live in Thailand. She was like, her favorite drink at Starbucks is a bottle of oj, then you bring it to a staff and ask them to put it on ice, then pour a shot of coffee on it. First, I was skeptical but I did give it a try anyways.
Hmmm.. so it's like, naturally sweet and sour, then that contrast taste of little bitter coffee taste. Refreshing from the oj but then you get waken up up from the caffeine as well.
These days, I start to see more and more of this here in Thailand. I personally like it with something equal or lighter than medium roast. Don't want the contrast of the tastes too much.
OMG! This is one of my most favs but it gotta be made right! I had it first time in a Chinese style coffee shop in Bangkok, Thailand. I has the same feel of drinking orange coffee but not exactly because you got some salty hint to it too. This is for sure rare. After I had it at that shop, I have always been looking for something similar but I have never found anything like it since.
One day, here close to where I live in Pattaya, I just randomly ask a coffee shop owner that can you make a plum juice and just dump a shot of coffee in it for me? He said he could so I was so happy I finally found a place that can serve me this rare item...
First sip.. goodness #wtf almost wanted to spit it out because how salty, sour, bitter, and all those tastes combined. You can imagine how ugly the taste was. A few weeks later, I confessed to the shop owner that it was not the taste I was looking for so we kinda did some experiments. Less sour plum, don't smash it, honey in stead of white sugar and light roast coffee. Whoa.. now we're talking.
All the 3 mentioned above is not what this post is about #lol sorry, no. So you remember the sour plum coffee up there, I ordered a cup for my Vietnamese friend who lives in the same building once. One funny but true thing she told me, 'It's good, but I feel more thirsty'. Now that she brought that up, I actually did agree.
Yesterday, she texted me that she'd like to bring me a cup of coffee. I said no but she insisted she would bring anyways so, yes please, who would say no to coffee for several times. I'm glad I did! It's not a regular coffee. She adapts the idea of sour plum coffee with this cup of coffee.. so no, it's not a regular cup of coffee.
She got Star Gooseberry that need to be eaten so soon but it's just too sour to finish it before it goes bad so, she fermented it with brown sugar in a gar. Good way to preserve the fruit, really. Then, she use the juice and crushed meat of Star Gooseberry mix with a shot of coffee and a splash of water. Same concept and almost the same taste as sour plum coffee I would say. I liked it, I liked it a lot!!
Super refreshing.. sweet, sour, and a little bitter. I would prefer it better with light roast though. Anyways, this is mind blow! (For me, at least).
