Yum!
Kod Yum (โคตรยำ) meaning, super duper spicy salad. I know, sounds weird when translated to English. Kod meaning extra, super, next level that kind of things. Yum in English means delicious but in Thai, Yum means one kind of dish, spicy salad (or as a verb is to make that spicy salad.) Kod Yum meaning, the next level of spicy salads.
It will make more sense when you know that most of the dishes they serve here are all 'Yum' dishes. They use almost the same spicy sauce for all the dishes only need to change kinds of meat and veggies.
What kind of sauce use in Yum you ask? It's heavy fish sauce (I know you all love it #lol), fermented fish sauce (this one you'd love it even more!! #lol ), lime juice, palm sugar (white one works too!), tons of chillis and tons of sliced red onions.
Now let's just dump sh*t tons of meat in!
Raw & cooked shrimps
Yesssss!! We eat raw shrimps over here. Not sure if it's common many places in the world but here, in Thailand, raw shrimp with intense flavor sauce just so dang good. It's almost like raw salmon (you'd know if you're a Japanese food lover) but it's a little dense and chewy.
Nice mixture with the same portion of cooked shrimps in the plate just to swap the texture a bit. Funny how same type of meat/seafood with differently being cooked would be so different in texture and taste!
Deep fried catfish raft
This is exotic for most of you reading this I swear. I don't even know I call it correctly in English but here's what it is.. A lot of ground catfish meat dumped into a boiling hot oil. It comes out as this crispy little raft. Topped with roasted peanuts is quite a complimentary for the dish.
It goes well together with the Yum sauce. Spicy, sweet, salty, sour with the crispy fish and crispy peanut.
Raw Salmon
The second raw fish of the meal. Can't you already tell, we Thai love raw stuff #lol. Not to mention that the fermented fish sauce mentioned earlier is also really raw.
Anyways, this Yum raw salmon had not been such a common dish at any Yum restaurants until many years back when Japanese food started booming. Some people who got good taste pair this raw salmon with Yum sauce and dang, not one of the Yum restaurants I know that don't get no raw salmon yum. Yup, it's that good!
Deep fried pork jaw
Getting a little too ridiculous with all the Yum dishes so we decided to order another dish that's not Yum too. Deep fried pork jaw topped with tons of deep fried onions. Crispy inside out! Which is kinda nice to eat along with the Yum dishes we got.
Kod Yum is yum!
Before coming to the place, we got recommendation about this restaurant. Especially for those love spices, spiciness and fishiness. This could be a place for you to give it a try. It's Thai-style delicious #hehe.
I like it quite a lot. It's spicy and intense just the way I like my Yum cooked. The place is quite cozy as well. The color of the place is super yellow. Wondering if that helps with the appetite. If so, gg!
As well as, it doesn't have to be here in Lopburi where we had it as they got quite a good amount of branches all around in Bangkok.
