SNOW DROPS
Spring!!! Right, Yeah! Do the happy dance, put on the tenny runners instead of the sorels and get out into the balmy 45 degree temps. Ahh Spring. Needed to stretch my legs yesterday and take a quick look at what is coming up on the homestead. As has been mentioned before this homestead was established nearly 100 years ago. There really are no regulation "established flower beds". The planting of tulips, crocus, daffodillys, poppys have been managed by the miriade of gophers that claim this as their home. Anything can come up anywhere in the yard. Each year something else finds it's way to the surface to bloom. Several years ago I tried to dig the tulips, but after a 2' hole was dug there was still no site of the bulb. I like mother natures design better anyway. Less weeding. :) I was pleasantly surprised to discover a little clump of crocus almost to bloom. Hard to pick up the pale violet color. Looks like a bunch of tulips are coming up near it as well. Those seed pods are from the German Locust trees that are forming a beautiful grove amongst the lilacs. Got to love it.
The tulips come in many varieties and colors. Some have parrot style flowers some are varigated colors. Here is a picture from last year of one of the gopher beds.
Looks like the new tulips are shooting up as well. LOOK, there are tiny blades of beautiful green grass!! Guess I better start thinking of getting the mower out and ready. It will be that time in the blink of an eye.
I always love the Snow Drops. They poke up through the still frozen ground and snow. The very first signs of new beginnings every year. When I moved here 11 years ago, the patch was much smaller. Thank you to the Hens for your help in designing this beautiful layout.
Gosh, what else can I find out here in the back yard. These Daffodills haven't even had a chance to turn green yet, they are so new to the world. There seems to be several clumps of those around the house. Love their bright yellow faces.
Oh look, over in Davids pasture. That's my outside kitty Freida. She is a good mouser. She hangs out with questionable characters like the skunks, but she never stinks. :)
