Unlearning Is Also a Form of Growth

Hello, wonderful community of women! This time we have a new topic for this week’s activity, and I’m already excited that every Monday we can reflect on it and write about it.

I really like the first question because I think the term “unlearning” isn’t very well known—at least that’s my impression. Maybe it’s become trendy lately, but I find it an interesting term that refers to the fact that no one has the absolute truth, and it may be that what you learned as children—in school, college, and other places—isn’t necessarily “ideal".

In fact, in another post I shared in this community, I mentioned that I attended a women’s event where a speaker touched on this topic. She told us she had “unlearned” several things while going through very difficult times in her life—such as breaking up with her partner, the bankruptcy of her business, and the overall situation the country was facing.

Personally, throughout my life, I think I’ve also experienced this process of “unlearning”—ideas that were deeply ingrained in my mind, like those beliefs we pick up from a very young age and that, over time, we discover weren’t always true or were simply other people’s ways of seeing things.

In recent months, one thing I’ve unlearned is the idea that I had to know everything before starting something, but you never stop learning—you always have to stay up to date—and besides, new things are always coming up, so you’ll never be able to know everything or feel 100% ready to start something.

I currently run a startup where I’m learning a lot. In my role as CMO, I’ve been handling all the social media marketing, but I’ve also had to stay up to date to keep pace with the current market.

This includes new concepts and new tools—I even took courses on the subject to put what I learned into practice in my project.

It’s really improved my life a lot, because before, I used to worry a lot and doubt my abilities; if someone asked me to do something new or create something together, I’d refuse or put it off.

Now, after going through all these experiences, I’ve realized that I can either sit around doing nothing and keep being afraid of everything, or I can muster up the courage and give it my all to face the challenges that come my way.

Obviously, I chose the latter. For quite some time now, I’ve been opening myself up more to these kinds of challenges. I no longer want to stay in my comfort zone, where I won’t grow in any way; I want to go beyond the horizon and explore new opportunities.

These past few months, I’ve been in that mindset—daring to do new things that I was previously afraid to try for various reasons. If it’s something I want to achieve, I’ll do it, even if I feel a little scared; I’ll trust in my knowledge, my experience, and my courage as a person.

Moving on to the second question, I think one of the nicest pieces of news I received was that I was nominated in this community as “Lady of the Week.” It filled me with joy to know that so many people had loved my post about Japan.

But even before that, I was also very happy because I had won that contest. I realized that if you write with passion and let it shine through in your writing, you’re sure to touch your readers’ hearts.

And the big surprise wasn’t just being nominated, but also being chosen as the “Lady of the Week.” I felt so proud to have made it this far, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank this wonderful community for supporting me so much with my latest posts.

They are amazing women who, each in her own way, share different stories that teach us so much—and we can relate to many of them.

It’s a great honor for me to be part of this community, and I want to continue being a part of it—as well as keep supporting more women in their posts and encouraging many more to write and join Ladies of Hive.

Thank you to the team behind the scenes who always look out for us and for creating such a wonderful atmosphere.

And above all, thank you for reading—I hope you have a great start to your week.
