There’s something that makes this review very different from the one I wrote about the first season: I’m no longer approaching this world solely through the live-action adaptation. Now I have the full context of the anime and the manga… and that changes absolutely everything. I enjoyed this season ten times more. The work they’ve done here feels meticulous, well-thought-out, and deeply respectful of the original source material. So yes, I have to thank Netflix for giving me that little push I needed to dive into this story that’s as grand as it is unforgettable. I had EXTREMELY HIGH expectations. I knew important moments were coming—the kind that make history. And I can say this with confidence: it was completely worth the wait… though, please, don’t take so long again🥺

For those who only follow the series, in this second season the Straw Hats finally find their way to the Grand Line: that mysterious sea where, according to legend, lies the treasure left behind by Gol D. Unpredictable islands, extreme weather, unknown ecosystems, and new cultures put a crew that’s still growing to the test. This season represents that first big step… and everything that comes with facing the unknown. It’s more intense, more emotional, and, in many moments, darker. What we saw in the first season was merely an introduction to the world of One Piece. Here we face much more complex themes: corruption, discrimination, abandonment, loneliness… but also hope, loyalty, and personal growth. All wrapped up in adventure, action, and conflicts that keep you completely immersed in the story.

As for the characters, I won’t go into too much detail about the main characters because I already did that in my previous review. But I do need to say this: the main cast is, quite simply, perfect. Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Gibson, and Taz Skylar don’t just play their characters… they embody them. They respect their essence, their values, and their ways of seeing the world. You can feel their dedication, discipline, and love for what they’re doing. And that extends even to the more minor characters. Every member of the Straw Hats evolves, both in their role aboard the ship and on a personal level. It’s true that some have less screen time, but that’s understandable given how expansive this story is and the limited number of episodes.

This season shines with the introduction of new characters. I have to start with her: Nico Robin, also known as Miss All Sunday. One of my all-time favorite characters. Although her appearance is brief, every scene carries weight. Lera Abova manages to convey that blend of mystery, intelligence, and composure that defines the character. And honestly, it left me wanting so much more. And with her, the entire Baroque Works team really shone here. The actors really brought their characters to life, delivering action-packed and suspenseful scenes, and they were pretty ruthless. I loved all of their performances. Another great choice was Smoker, played by Callum Kerr. His presence is commanding from the very first moment. His skills, his character, his sense of justice… it’s all there. And alongside him, Tashigi, played by Julia Rehwald, who manages to capture the essence of the character in a way that feels incredibly faithful.

Esta temporada brilla con la introducción de nuevos personajes. Tengo que empezar con ella: Nico Robin, también conocida como Miss All Sunday. Uno de mis personajes favoritos de toda la historia. It’s also impossible not to mention our beloved Miss Wednesday, played by Charithra Chandran. Beyond any senseless controversy on social media, her work speaks for itself. And it’s worth remembering something important: Eiichirō Oda is directly involved in casting. If he trusts her performance, that says a lot. One Piece has always been a story about diversity, acceptance, and respect, so criticizing an actress for her background is not only unnecessary but completely contrary to the show’s message. I can’t wait to see her again in the next season! Because her character is a very important one. And then there’s him… Tony Tony Chopper. I wasn’t prepared for just how adorable he’d be. His design, his voice, his expressions… everything works. It’s impossible not to fall in love with him from the very first moment. And alongside his story, characters like Dr. Kureha and Dr. Hiriluk appear. The Drum Island episodes were, without a doubt, among my favorites. The setting, the emotional weight, the characters… it all felt like watching the anime come to life. And speaking of that, the giants Dorry and Brogy were also a total hit. Their personalities, their designs, their scenes… everything conveys that sense of nostalgia and respect for the source material.

In terms of production, this season feels more ambitious. More polished. Made with more love… and yes, with a bigger budget, too. One Piece is an over-the-top, fantastical story—even chaotic at its core. They could have chosen to simplify it, to make it more “realistic”… but they didn’t. They chose to stay true to it. From character design to the settings, from the Going Merry to Laboon… everything is crafted with a level of detail that feels like a constant tribute to Oda’s work.

A nivel de producción, esta temporada se siente más ambiciosa. Más cuidada. Con más amor… y sí, también con más presupuesto. One Piece es una historia exagerada, fantasiosa, incluso caótica en su esencia. Y pudieron haber optado por simplificarla, hacerla más “realista”… pero no lo hicieron. Apostaron por respetarla. Now, there’s also criticism. And I think the main point is clear: 8 episodes aren’t enough. We’re talking about a massive story that keeps getting more complex. It might not feel that way right now, but this could become a problem down the road. A minimum of 10 or 12 episodes would allow for better development of storylines, characters, and key moments. I also understand the criticism regarding omitted scenes or changes to the story. But let’s be realistic… One Piece has over a thousand chapters. It’s impossible to adapt everything word for word. What the live-action series is doing is selecting the most important moments and maintaining the essence. And honestly, it’s succeeding at that. Plus, something I love is that this adaptation works for both fans and new viewers. I have friends who knew nothing about One Piece… and ended up laughing, crying, falling in love with characters, and wondering why they were crying over a whale.

Ahora, también hay críticas. Y creo que la principal es clara: 8 episodios no son suficientes. Estamos hablando de una historia gigantesca, que cada vez se vuelve más compleja. Quizás ahora no se siente tanto, pero a futuro esto puede convertirse en un problema. Un mínimo de 10 o 12 episodios permitiría desarrollar mejor tramas, personajes y momentos clave. También entiendo las críticas sobre escenas omitidas o cambios en la historia. Pero siendo realistas… One Piece tiene más de mil capítulos. Es imposible adaptar todo al pie de la letra. Lo que está haciendo el live action es seleccionar los momentos más importantes y mantener la esencia. Y eso, honestamente, lo está logrando. Además, algo que me encanta es que esta adaptación funciona tanto para fans como para nuevos espectadores. Tengo amigos que no sabían nada de One Piece… y terminaron riendo, llorando, enamorándose de personajes y preguntándose por qué estaban llorando por una ballena.

The season finale does what we’ve seen before: it ends on a high note, but leaves the door open to something much bigger. The introduction of Crocodile sets the stage for the Alabasta arc, a major one in the overall story. Expectations are sky-high. We want to see more of Robin, see how Chopper fits into the crew… and yes, we’re also waiting for Portgas D. Ace! With Xolo Maridueña already confirmed for the role, the excitement is real. And the fact that he has great chemistry with Iñaki Godoy only heightens our anticipation to see that brotherly bond on screen.

El final de temporada vuelve a hacer lo que ya vimos antes: cerrar con fuerza, pero abrir la puerta a algo mucho más grande. La introducción de Crocodile nos prepara para el arco de Alabasta, uno bastante importante en toda la historia. Las expectativas están altísimas. Queremos más de Robin, ver cómo Chopper se integra a la tripulación… ¡y sí, también estamos esperando a Portgas D. Ace! Con Xolo Maridueña ya confirmado para el papel, la emoción es real. In conclusion, this second season doesn’t just deliver… it exceeds expectations. If you’re a One Piece fan, you’re going to love it. It’s not an exact copy, but it’s an adaptation that respects, understands, and honors the original story. And if you know nothing about this world, this could be the perfect gateway to it. Because in the end, beyond pirates, treasure, and adventure… One Piece is a story about dreams, about belonging, and about finding your place in the world. It’s my favorite anime; I’m completely in love with this story and its characters. I’m so grateful to Oda for giving us this masterpiece, and I was overjoyed with every episode Netflix released. I laughed and cried all over again, and felt that kind of hope that only One Piece can give ✨ And believe me… it’s completely worth experiencing.

En conclusión, esta segunda temporada no solo cumple… supera. Si eres fan de One Piece, la vas a disfrutar muchísimo. No es una copia exacta, pero es una adaptación que respeta, entiende y honra la historia original. Y si no sabes nada de este mundo, esta puede ser la puerta perfecta para entrar. Porque al final, más allá de piratas, tesoros y aventuras… One Piece es una historia sobre sueños, sobre pertenencia, y sobre encontrar tu lugar en el mundo. Es mi anime favorito, estoy completamente enamorada de esta historia y sus personajes, agradecida con Oda por darnos esta obra maestra, y fuí inmensamente feliz con cada capítulo que nos dió Netflix.
