This Bible Scripture appeared first in the book of Isaiah. Isaiah was an Old Testament prophet who prophesied the coming life and death of Jesus, the Son of God. Man was lost in sin with no way to restore the relationship to God lost by the original sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
God knew that we were powerless to restore ourselves, so He shared this knowledge in the text with the prophet Isaiah to provide hope to mankind. God's love would provide the perfect sacrifice for mankind. That sacrifice would be Jesus, God in the flesh. Another verse names the Savior Emmanuel, which is interpreted as God With Us.
Jesus preached the Kingdom of God and walked with men on Earth for thirty-three years. He was sinless and showed love and compassion for all He encountered as he walked on Earth. His Truth was broadcast far and wide. The world did not receive Jesus, and He was persecuted by Jewish religious leaders for sharing the secrets of Heaven with common men and women. The religious elite; Pharisees and Sadducees, hated Jesus's message because it revealed their sin and selfish motives.
The most wonderful twist in Human history occurred when Jesus was betrayed by sinful men and crucified. The plan to silence Jesus backfired completely. His prophesied purpose for coming to Earth and taking upon himself a human form was accomplished.
Jesus bore the sins of all mankind in His own body on the tree. By his stripes (he was brutally beaten and flogged) we are healed. (forgiven). Jesus is the only man who ever raised Himself from the dead. We can live eternally because He lives if we receive Him as Lord and Savior.
