She spat on the ground a rust-colored mucus. It left an aftertaste of copper taste of blood in her mouth. Her tongue felt the raw wound inside her cheek. It flipped the loose flesh with the tip of her tongue. She sat on a hard chair with her hands tied tightly with the dirty rope that dug deep into her wrists to the chair's bars behind her back.
The girl rocked her body forward and backward in the chair to the screech of the legs on the cement floor. She inched toward the window. She needed to escape, maybe she could break the window and score some glass shards so she could cut the ropes binding her hands. Hunger gnawing at her gut, she wondered when her last meal was.
She reached the wall after what felt like hours. The sun had long since dropped below the horizon. She leaned her head against the cold wall relishing the victory before drifting into a dreamless sleep.
