Tight spaces require creative furniture arrangements. As a child, my parents moved us around, and from time to time the sleeping arrangements needed to be tweaked.

In Fairview, Pennsylvania we lived in a very small trailer. I imagine it was very old, too, but back then I didn't think about that sort of thing. There were three bedrooms and four of us, soon after there became five of us.

Mom became pregnant with my sister who got a room to herself. I was put in the bunk-sized bed that was stored, when not in use, against the wall on chains in the hallway between the kitchen and my parents' bedroom.

A sliding wood door separated my closet-style bedroom from the other spaces. I was small, so I fit fine. It didn't occur to me to complain, from my recollection. I discovered a secret compartment, so I felt that I was cool.
