Distance photography is about capturing people, animals, landscapes, buildings, or events from far enough away to show the subject within its wider surroundings. Rather than getting close to the subject, the photographer uses distance to create a sense of space, scale, and perspective. This style can be especially effective when photographing mountains, coastlines, cityscapes, wildlife, or people within a busy environment. The surrounding scenery becomes an important part of the photograph and helps tell a bigger story.
For me, distance photography is also about observing rather than interfering. Being further away allows me to capture natural moments while giving the subject plenty of space to continue what they are doing. I can use natural light, shadows, layers, and the relationship between the subject and its surroundings to create an interesting image. Sometimes the beauty of a photograph comes not from seeing every detail, but from stepping back and allowing the viewer to imagine the story within the scene.
