Hello Steemit

Here is our second posting about Oktoberfest! In today’s posting we will talk more about what we actually did during Oktoberfest, as well as showing some more pictures of our time there.

Let’s get started!

We arrived in Munich the afternoon before Oktoberfest began and decided to meet up with some friends and get things started a little early. We had our friend take a group photo and you can see that we were getting things started in the proper Oktoberfest manner. You can see Erika in the back wearing one of her Dirndls:

The first thing to note is that entrance to Oktoberfest itself was free. We got into the festival grounds by simply waiting in a long line and did not require any sort of advanced tickets. However, since we had to pay for everything inside I would recommend setting 100€ aside for a good day.

Oktoberfest!
I mentioned up above that entrance to the festival grounds was free. The caveat is that you have to pay an entrance fee to any of the major beer hall tents (usually under 20€) and they can be hard to get in without a reservation. Reservations start being available in February or March and often are all claimed very quickly. We got lucky and one of our friends had secured a reservation through her work, so we can show you what the inside of the Augustiner Brau tent was like.

The festivities kicked off with the ceremonial tapping of a keg of beer while we were all chanting and singing.

There was also a lot of traditional German music and dancing. The dancing was done by both professionals and the general public.

We had some amazing food both in the tent and surrounding the festival grounds. One day we went to the brewery itself before going to the festival grounds and had a very traditional meal with a wurst (sausage) and pretzel with mustard.

We mentioned the statue of Bavaria in yesterday’s posting and wanted to show you what we were talking about. This is a picture of the statue overlooking the festival grounds and then a crowd shot to Oktoberfest itself

As you can imagine, a day at Oktoberfest involved a lot of beer and food. Although you really feel it the next morning, the fun and the energy is worth it enough to gather your group back together and head back to the Wiesn for another day of festivities! We recommend that anyone who is able goes at least once in their lifetime because there really is no experience quite like a real Munich Oktoberfest.

Hopefully you have enjoyed this whirlwind tour of Oktoberfest with us! We will be happy to answer any questions in the discussion down below!

We hope to hear from you and will incorporate your suggestions into our future posts. You can expect our next posting shortly and we will try to include any good suggestions that we see before that posting.

Auf Wiedersehen!
E&J
