Adulthood is a wide ride
Adulthood, it really is a wild ride. Just when you think you've kinda gotten a handle on this whole independent adult thing, bam - life throws you another curveball. Because that's just how it goes in this stage, constant pivots and adjustments needed.
Take finding your "passion" or dream career for example. Sounds all rainbows and butterflies in theory. But then you're a few years into your first "real" job and the honeymoon phase wears off. Suddenly you're wondering if this is really what you wanna be doing for the next 40-something years of your working life. Massive internal struggle - do I gut it out or risk starting over in a new field? The student loan debt definitely doesn't help those tough decisions.
And good luck even getting your foot in the door for those "ideal" careers in the first place. Job hunting as an adult is a soul-crusher. You're basically a circus animal constantly jumping through hoops, putting on the perfect song-and-dance routine just to get an interview. Forget being a human being - you're a brand now, always selling yourself.
Then once you do lock down employment, say hello to the good ol' workplace rivalry games. Doesn't matter if it's a stuffy corporate office or crew of hair stylists, people everywhere are constantly jockeying to one-up each other. Grown adults literally competing over who can eat the most butt to impress the higher-ups. Gotta keep climbing that ladder no matter the cost to your dignity!
But amid all the career chaos, you also gotta figure out this whole maintaining healthy adult relationships thing too. Maybe you want that stereotypical marriage, 2.5 kids and a white picket fence deal. Or maybe you're set on the footloose, fancy-free single life for the long haul. Either way, both paths are minefields to navigate.
Finding that special partner is hard enough without all the external pressures. Mortgage, joint bank accounts, in-laws, actually staying in love - relationships level up in crazy ways as an adult. And if you choose to go solo, well get ready for everyone and their mom to ask why you're still single and don't you want kids already?!
No matter what though, adulthood means taking full responsibility for yourself. That reality can be exhilarating and terrifying all at once. No parents holding your hand and telling you what to do anymore. You are 100% the author of your own story for better or worse.
At the end of the day, adulting really just means constantly growing, evolving and persevering through all the ups and downs. It never lets up, so you can't either. It's an exhausting, endless grind - but also kinda beautiful when you stop to appreciate how far you've come. Just don't stop too long or adulthood's latest challenge will knock you right off that hard-earned perch!
