Ever heard the saying that we should be careful what we wish for, because we might actually get it?
What if the breakthroughs we experience in life do not always arrive wrapped in joy and love, but sometimes in tragedy?
Have you ever gone through something that felt agonizing in the moment, something that made you want to give up, only to find yourself thanking God for it later?
I have.
Most of you probably have, too.
The real struggle is learning to hold on to that perspective when discomfort arises.
For instance, I have been considering changing jobs for quite some time. But because I had not yet reached the tipping point, I kept postponing the decision, and would probably have continued to do so were it not for God using some of my coworkers to make it unmistakably clear that it is time for me to leave.
I could have been furious about their words, their behavior, their attitudes, and the things they said. Instead, I choose to see them as the key that unlocked the door to my next chapter, to my "promotion in life."
I no longer feel obliged to stay, nor do I have the slightest doubt about whether my decision is right or wrong.
It is time to go.
Try looking at people as answers to questions we pose within ourselves, often without even realizing it.
As C. Freeman El stated, prayer is not merely what you decree when you are in church. Prayer is what is taking place in your mind from the moment you wake up until the moment you fall asleep.
Our thoughts return to us, but never void.
One practice I use to reprogram my mind is journaling, not by recording the day exactly as it happened, but by reconstructing it in a way that aligns with my desires and the meaning I choose to give it.
Instead of writing, "My coworkers were rude," I declare, "God used my coworkers to show me the way."
On the other page, I write my "Thank You" list.
I thank God for things even before they happen. So thank Him for your new job before you have even received it. Thank Him for the opportunities that have not yet appeared. Thank Him for the doors that have not yet opened.
Do this every night, and you may be amazed at how peacefully you fall asleep, and how refreshed you feel when you wake up the following morning.
Take care.
